Skype Is Coming With A Big Display Overhaul And New Features

JAKARTA - Microsoft plans to change Skype with a more modern design and improved performance. Covers the call stage, which is said to be the most important part of the platform.

The app will soon have new themes and layouts, including improvements to the way Skype displays grids in video feeds. Later, if someone joins the call with audio only, they will be able to have a custom background behind the icon.

Citing Slashgear, Tuesday, September 28, Skype will also improve the chat header, supporting customizable themes with more color options. Notification sound can also be customized.

According to Microsoft, the updated Skype product offers more than a 2.000 percent increase in performance on Android and 30 percent on desktop. The text-based messaging aspect of the software has also been improved, including a slimmer left-side panel, new group avatars, and even the addition of gradients to buttons.

Not only that, but the company will also redesign the Meet Now lobby to visually enhance it and make it easier to use. Skype will also support all future browsers, including Safari and Opera. Microsoft also has a new feature for Skype called TwinCam, which lets people add smartphones during video conference calls for additional cameras.

TwinCam can be used to showcase artwork or demonstrate projects while still using a desktop webcam. The company doesn't give an exact launch date for its new features, only stating that changes are taking place this year.

With all the changes it brings, does it really affect Skype users. Microsoft recently brought in a new CVP (Corporate Vice President), Manik Gupta to oversee the company's Skype initiative.

The video calling platform has faced criticism for being irrelevant or uncompetitive to some in recent years. The arrival of this design change could be an attempt to reassert Skype's place in the world on par with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other competitors.
