5G Network Now Can Be Used In Indonesia, Here's The Coverage

JAKARTA – The 5G network is the latest breakthrough in communication technology in the world. Now a number of cellular operators are starting to compete to use this network in Indonesia. Moreover, smartphones that use this technology are currently rife in the market.

In Indonesia, there are a number of cellular operators who are ready to launch 5G technology in several cities in Indonesia. This will be a big leap because this technology offers speed in the process of data transfer and telecommunications.

Telkomsel, a subsidiary of PT Telkom, is said to be the first cellular company to provide 5G services in Indonesia. They have been providing 5G services for their customers since May 27, 2021.

After Telkomsel, Indosat Ooredoo appears, which also presents this service on June 7, 2021, for their customers. Not wanting to be left behind on August 6, 2021, XL Axiata also takes part in providing 5G services in Indonesia and becomes the third cellular operator to provide this 5G service.

All three continue to expand their network coverage. Although currently, the coverage area is not too wide and very limited, 5G technology continues to develop along with the more incessant mobile phone manufacturers in releasing mobile phones with 5G technology.

Telkomsel's 5G service operates on the n40 frequency or on the 2300MHz band. Their services can only be enjoyed in several big city areas with very limited area coverage. Telkomsel provides information on area coverage that can already get 5G services.

In the Greater Jakarta area, 5G services from Telkomsel can be enjoyed in residential areas in Alam Sutera, Bumi Serpong Damai, Kelapa Gading, Pantai Indah Kapuk, Pondok Indah, and Widya Chandra.

Apart from these areas, 5G services from Telkomsel can be enjoyed with the Hotspot system. Areas that already support 5G Hotspot include several GraPARI outlets in Medan, Batam, Solo, Surabaya, Balikpapan, and Makassar. Especially for the city of Bandung, Telkomsel's 5G Hotspot service can be enjoyed in areas at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and Telkom University (Tel-U).

Meanwhile, Indosat Ooredoo has a relatively narrow 5G coverage area. The 5G service from this cellular operator can only be used in five cities. Indosat can only provide services in limited areas such as the area around the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta, the Genteng area in Surabaya, the Gunung Bahagia area in Balikpapan, and the Pettarani Area in Makassar. Especially for the Surakarta City area, 5G services can be enjoyed in all areas within the city.

XL Axiata is somewhat different from its two competitors in 5G services. XL Axiata uses the Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DDS) feature which allows the use of 4G LTE and 5G technology on the same waveband.

XL Axiata uses the DDS feature, making the 5G experience for XL Axiata users somewhat different from cellular operators that use a special spectrum for their 5G services.

5G services from XL Axiata can be enjoyed by customers in the Margonda street area in Depok, the Gedung Sate area in Bandung, as well as several XL Center points such as XL Axiata Tower in Jakarta, XL Center Martadinata in Bandung, XL Center Yogyakarta, and XL Youth Center in Surabaya.

The new XL Axiata can be enjoyed with limited cellphones. Xiaomi Poco M3 Pro 5G, Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G, and Oppo Reno 5 5G are devices that can be used to enjoy 5G services from XL Axiata.
