Rows Of Important Figures Ahead Of The Change Of The National Armed Force Commander
JAKARTA - Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, is sure that President Joko Widodo will send a Presidential Letter (Supres) regarding the candidate for the National Armed Force (TNI) Commander in the near future to Senayan.
There are a number of important figures behind the need for Jokowi to immediately choose the successor of Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto.
Puan said the DPR will enter a recess on October 7 next. Meanwhile, the term of office of TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto will end on November 8, 2021.
"According to the law, the DPR will submit its approval no later than 20 days after the Suppres is received," said Puan Monday, September 20.
Puan guaranteed that the DPR's stance in approving the candidate for the TNI Commander in Chief would be based on the interests of the TNI organization and the interests of the people at large.
"It's not based on narrow political interests, because TNI politics is state politics," she said.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture explained that the role of the TNI is very vital in every phase of the Indonesian nation's journey. Especially, when the country is experiencing a number of challenges and conditions such as handling COVID-19, controlling security in Papua, and threats from foreign militaries.
"We hope that future commanders will carry out national defense policies to overcome these problems," said Puan.
Puan asked the public to be patient while waiting for the name of the new TNI Commander candidate to be sent by the President to the DPR. The reason is that the election of the TNI Commander is the prerogative of the president.
