Minister Of Health Makes Notes For IBL 2022

JAKARTA - Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin noted the plan for the implementation of the 2022 Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) which is planned to start in January next year.

Budi said that his party was open to the IBL management's plan to bring back foreign players next season after the 2021 competition, the league was entirely made up of local players due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are open to the idea of having foreign players and spectators present, but we need to be careful and implement it gradually," Budi said, as quoted by the league's official website, quoted by Antara, Sunday, September 12.

"Everything has to start slowly, then do an evaluation. If it's good, it can be increased gradually," he added.

Previously, IBL management had released a temporary schedule for holding the highest basketball competition in the country for next season. There are two dates that have been prepared, namely on January 11 or 14, 2022.

Minister of Health Budi also supports the plan. He advised league operators to apply high standards of health protocols in their implementation.

Meanwhile, IBL President Director Junas Miradiarsyah reported the success of the 2021 IBL season which was carried out with a bubble system. He is committed to implementing a similar format in the implementation of the 2022 season competition with health protocols that will be further improved. If the 2022 IBL is successfully implemented, he continued, then it can be a reference to play the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup which is scheduled for July next year.

"We also presented the importance of the continuity of the IBL competition to support and maintain the momentum of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup and 2023 FIBA World Cup where Indonesia will be the host," said Junas.
