Proven Corruption Of IDR 756 Million, Ex Treasurer Of North Sumatra BNN Sentenced To 4 Years In Prison
MEDAN - The panel of judges at the Medan Corruption Court sentenced the former Treasurer of the Expenditures of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of North Sumatra, Syarifah, to four years in prison in a corruption case amounting to IDR 756.5 million. The judge's decision is the same as the demands submitted by the Public Prosecutor.
In a trial chaired by judge Syafril Batubara, the defendant was found guilty of violating Article 8 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law.
"The sentence against the defendant in the form of imprisonment for 4 years reduced as long as the defendant is in temporary detention with an order that the defendant remains detained and a fine of IDR 200,000,000 subsidiary for 4 months", said judge Syafril at the trial, Thursday, September 9.
The panel of judges also sentenced the defendant to pay compensation of IDR 756,530,060.
"With the provision that if the defendant is unable to pay the replacement money no later than 1 month after the decision has permanent legal force, then his property can be confiscated by the Prosecutor and auctioned off to cover the replacement money. If the defendant does not have sufficient assets to pay the replacement money, then replaced with a prison sentence of one year", explained Syafril.
Some things burden the defendant's actions because they are in line with the government's program in eradicating corruption.
"Meanwhile, things that relieve the defendant, regret his actions, have never been punished, and still have family responsibilities", said the panel of judges.

Previously, in the indictment of Public Prosecutor Mustafa Kamal, the defendant Syarifah as the Treasurer of the Expenditure of the National Narcotics Agency of North Sumatra Province, made a double payment. The reason is, the budget item for the Eradication and Rehabilitation Sector at the National Narcotics Agency of North Sumatra Province for the 2017 Fiscal Year (FY) has been submitted again.
This is the finding of an auditor from the State Audit and Development Agency (BPKP) Representative of North Sumatra which periodically conducts audits. As a result of the defendant's actions, it resulted in state finances amounting to IDR 756.5 million.
