Good News, Indonesia's Active COVID-19 Cases Are Again Lower Than The World's Active Cases

JAKARTA - Spokesman for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, currently has a lower active case number than the world's active cases. Previously, Indonesia's active cases in recent weeks were higher than the world's.

On August 20, Indonesia's active COVID-19 cases were 7.3 percent. Meanwhile, the world's active cases are 8.43 percent.

"Finally on August 20 yesterday, for the first time the percentage of active cases in Indonesia was lower than active cases in the world", said Wiku in a virtual press conference, Tuesday, August 24.

Wiku said that the decline in active cases in Indonesia was quite significant when compared to the previous week, from 384,807 cases to 306,760 cases, down by more than 78,000 cases.

The decrease in active cases was contributed from 32 provinces. This means, there are only 2 provinces that experienced an increase in active cases and a decrease in healing.

Of the 32 provinces that experienced a decline in active cases, the largest decline occurred in DI Yogyakarta, which fell 6.75 percent. Then, West Kalimantan fell 6.18 percent, Gorontalo fell 5.78 percent, Central Sulawesi fell 5.64 percent, and West Papua fell 5.39 percent.

Wiku also said that these 32 provinces experienced an increase in the recovery rate. The highest increase in recovery rates occurred in DI Yogyakarta which rose 6.69 percent, West Kalimantan rose 6.06 percent, West Papua rose 5.54 percent, Central Sulawesi rose 5.52 percent, Gorontalo rose 5.48 percent, and NTT rose 5.37 percent.

"I appreciate these 5 provinces because they have succeeded in contributing the highest decrease in active cases and at the same time the highest increase in healing", said Wiku.

"This good development in indicators of active cases and recovery is good news that we need to continue to maintain. Active cases and recovery will not decrease if there is no good cooperation from all parties", he explained.
