Potentially Disturbing Religious Harmony, MUI Asks Police To Immediately Take Action

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Anwar Abbas asked the police to immediately take action against Muhammad Kece who was considered to have insulted and demeaned Islam.

"I ask the police as soon as possible to arrest, process, and for the court to decide whether the actions in question are correct or not," said Anwar Abbas in a written statement received in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Monday, August 23.

Anwar assessed that all M. Kece's words on his Youtube page were baseless, only based on hatred. "Kece's statement has the potential to disrupt religious harmony," he said.

He hopes that the lecture/message delivery will not be colored by hate speech and insults towards anything. In conditions like today, all parties should be able to knit togetherness and harmony with each other.

"In the video that has been circulating recently, I saw that he has crossed the boundaries. In my opinion, it will disrupt the harmony of life between religious communities in this country," he said.

On the other hand, he also asked Muslims to be patient and not provoked by emotions, and to submit the matter to the police.

"This is something we don't want. Even though religious relations are very harmonious, none of us criticize each other, we respect each other. That's how we should be in a Pancasila state where the first principle is Belief in One Supreme God," he said.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Police of the National Police has received a public report regarding the alleged blasphemy of Islam by YouTuber Muhammad Kece. Investigators are following up on the report and will carry out an investigation.

"Members are working to carry out an investigation. Saturday night there was a public report to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police," said the Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Argo Yuwono.
