Twente Makes Ajax Down In Three Minutes Before The Game Ends

JAKARTA – Three minutes before the match ended, Ajax had to accept a 1-1 draw against Twente in the Dutch League which was held at the Stadio De Grolsch Veste, Enschede, Sunday, August 22.

Leading the match from the start, Ajax really believed through Sebastien Haller for the 1 point he achieved. However, Ajax failed because of Robin Proepper's goal for Twente three minutes before dispersal. This result made Ajax have to settle for third place in the standings with four points, while Twente (1) placed 11th, according to the Dutch League's official website.

The hosts played more aggressively early in the match but Manfred Ugalde's header was just off the mark and Queensy Menig's right-footed shot was saved by goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

Ajax could only threaten to reply in the 35th minute, unfortunately Haller's narrow-angle shot was still flying thinly over the crossbar.

Another opportunity created by Ajax through Edson Alvarez's header to meet Dusan Tadic's cross still leads right into the arms of goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall, making the first half go goalless.

Seven minutes into the second half the deadlock was finally broken when Haller struck the ball into the hosts' goal. Starting with Davy Klaassen's cross which hit the Twente defense, the ball hit the post where Haller chased him for an easy flick.

Twente then appeared more aggressive in launching their attack, unfortunately, Menig's shot from distance was once again saved by Stekelenburg in the 73rd minute.

The three points that had been in sight for Ajax were shattered three minutes before normal time when Proepper fired a low long-range shot that Stekelenburg failed to anticipate to make it 1-1.

Both teams had chances to win the game in injury time, but Menig's shot missed and Danilo's effort to meet Noussair Mazraoui's cross was denied by Unnerstall, forcing the game to end in a 1-1 draw.

In the next match Ajax will host Vitesse Arnhem at the Johan Cruijff Arena on Sunday, August 29, a day after Twente visited the headquarters of promoted team Cambuur Leeuwarden.
