Mahfud MD: The Spirit Of Nationalism And Social Solidarity Is Getting Sharper Amid The COVID-19 Pandemic

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said the 76th Indonesian Independence Day was still shrouded in the atmosphere of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, he admits that he is proud that nationalism and community solidarity are getting honed at this time.

"I see that the spirit of nationalism or defending our country and our mutual cooperation is even more honed in difficult times like this", said Mahfud in his video caption, Tuesday, August 17.

The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) said the evidence of solidarity was getting stronger because many people came together to lighten the burden of each other, for example, many people helped each other when there were residents around them who were self-isolating at home.

"The community unites to relieve each other, neighbors help each other who are self-isolating at home and other residents' initiative and creative efforts", he said.

Furthermore, Mahfud said the government is currently working hard to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. He ensured that the work of handling the pandemic would be guided by the safety of the people as the highest law.

"I believe that the tenacity of the government, supported by the community, can overcome this common enemy and will make our nation stronger. Happy Indonesia's independence, Indonesia is strong, Indonesia is growing", concluded Mahfud MD.
