Bengkulu Vibrates, An Earthquake Of 5.1 Magnitude Occurs In The Early Morning
JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 shook Bengkulu City on Sunday, August 15, 2021, in the early hours of the morning. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), in a statement monitored in Jakarta, said the earthquake occurred at around 01.41 WIB at 4.37 latitude and 102.66 east longitude, or 29 kilometers northwest of South Bengkulu.
The earthquake that occurred in these waters was at a depth of 22 kilometers and did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.
It is estimated that the earthquake was felt on the MMI III scale in Bengkulu City, Tais, Manna City, and Bintuhan, while in Palembang the earthquake was felt on the MMI II scale.

The Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) II to III scale means that earthquake vibrations are felt inside the house and as if a truck was passing.
However, the BMKG warned residents around the location of the earthquake point to be careful because of the potential for aftershocks. This was reported by Antara.
