JAKARTA - University of Indonesia lecturer Ade Armando spoke up after being accused by social activist Lieus Sungkharisma of dividing the nation. Lieus made the accusation following Ade Armando's statements on social media.
Most recently, a statement about the religion of Indonesian men's singles badminton player Anthony Ginting. Through his Twitter account, Ade Armando uploaded a screenshot showing a conversation about Anthony Ginting's religion. "Eh Ginting is Islam or Christian? Yes Christian… Oooooh…,” uploaded a picture from Ade Armando. The tweet was then attacked by netizens, including Lieus, for bringing up religion.
According to Ade Armando, anyone who follows uploads or tweets on Twitter would never think like Lieus. The statement about religion is actually a satire to those who have been bringing religion into all areas of life, including sports.
"What I say clearly, honestly is that cooperation in this sport should be an example in inter-religious relations. Likewise with my video praising the contributions of Chinese conglomerates and businessmen. slandered as a source of Indonesia's economic destruction," said Ade quoted from the CokroTV channel, Sunday, August 8.

In contrast to Lieus, whose actions are actually close to radical groups. In 2014, Lieus had been a supporter of Jokowi and then turned into a total hater of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok in the 2016-2017 DKI Pilkada.
Not only that, but Lieus also joined groups such as the FPI and the 212 movements led by Rrizieq Shihab. In the 2019 presidential election, Lieus joined the extreme camp that attacked the Jokowi government.
Even by the police, Lieus was arrested in 2019 for allegedly being involved in the movement to overthrow the legitimate government or treason.

I'm actually making fun of those who have been pretentiously bringing up religion in all their lives, including in the field of sports. I actually stated and I conveyed cooperation in sports it should exist in all lines of life," said Ade Armando.
Lieus previously highlighted Ade's statement on social media which often made a scene. Lieus was sad to see Ade, who always defended Chinese and non-Muslim businessmen.
"Mr. Ade Armando, whom I respect, it looks like you are protecting Chinese people, defending non-Muslims, but we can see that it hurts, sir, it doesn't seem good," said Lieus quoted from Twitter @syafniir.
Lieus said that Ade Armando's statement about the religion of Olympic athletes was not pleasing to hear.
"It's like winning the Olympics, you say that your religion is Christian. That's not good, sir. We see that he is the son and daughter of the nation. No more ethnic background, religious background. We are all happy, we are happy, don't be divided like that. Don't be like that. Sir," he insisted.
