Level 4 PPKM Is Extended, Anies: Don't Feel Safe Just Yet

JAKARTA - The government has decided to extend Level 4 Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) for a week until August 9, 2021. In extending this activity restriction, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan reminded that the pandemic condition is not yet safe even though the number of COVID-19 cases is starting to decline.

"I ask everyone, let's finish it, don't stop here and feel safe just yet", said Anies when met in the Central Jakarta area, Tuesday, August 3.

Anies explained that over the past month, active cases in Jakarta, which had soared, had dropped from 113.000 cases to 16.000 cases per day.

Then, the bed occupancy ratio (BOR) for COVID-19 patients at the referral hospital to the centralized isolation area also began to decrease.

However, Anies emphasized that currently, the percentage of positive cases from the number of specimen examinations is still above the safe limit set by WHO. This is because daily positive cases are still increasing, around 3.000 cases per day.

"So, we need to figure out when to enter epidemiologically safe. That is called the postivity rate, in the middle of July 45 percent, currently 13 percent. It's called safe if it's below 5 percent", he said.

"Before we get there, actually Jakarta is not safe yet. That's why I invite everyone, let's continue, hopefully soon this will end. After this is completely under control, God willing, we can freely carry out activities again", he added.
