Google CEO Sundar Pichai Is Envy To See World's Richest People Go To Space

JAKARTA - Soon the world's richest man Jeff Bezos will orbit into space using his personal spaceship. Knowing this, Google boss Sundar Pichai admitted that he was jealous.

Bezos will launch into space on July 20, aboard a New Shepard rocket made by Blue Origin, his company. Later, Bezos will fly with his brother Mark, senior pilot Wally Funk, along with the winning bidder who has paid USD 28 million.

Seeing the success of Bezos, made Pichai so jealous. Asked in an interview with the BBC's Amol Rajan what he thought of Bezos' space travel, Pichai said he was eager to see the sights.

"Well, I'm jealous, a little. I'd love to see birds from space", said Pichai as quoted from The Independent, Wednesday, July 14.

Unlike many other technology companies, Pichai doesn't have any immediate plans to go into space or develop space probes. The reason is that Google's parent company, Alphabet, prefers to focus on the upper atmosphere through the Loon project. This project was intended to spread the internet using giant balloons, but unfortunately, this project was canceled in early 2021.

Before Bezos ventured into space, Richard Branson had flown first into space last weekend, aboard a rocket from Virgin Galactic. Bezos did announce his flight first, but he was overtaken by Branson.

Not only Bezos and Branson but also Elon Musk, whose SpaceX is arguably the most successful so far of the private space company launched by the tech boss and billionaire, having delivered astronauts to the international space station (ISS) several times.
