Soaring Cases, Gurindam City Tanjungpinang Riau Islands Red Zone COVID-19

TANJUNG PINANG - The COVID-19 Task Force has determined Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands, to be in the red zone following a high number of active cases.

A spokesman for the Riau Islands COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Tjetjep Yudiana, said the number of active COVID-19 cases in Tanjungpinang reached 729 people.

Tanjung Pinang residents who were infected with COVID-19 today increased by 79 people to 4,405 people. Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients in the area nicknamed Gurindam City increased by 26 people to 3,574 people.

The total number of patients who died due to COVID-19 since the pandemic until now was 102 people.

"Patient beds that have been used have reached 60.30 percent", he said, who is also a former Head of the Riau Islands Health Office.

The designation of Tanjung Pinang as a red zone a few weeks after Bintan Regency, which is located on one island, was designated a red zone. Active cases of COVID-19 in Bintan, which is a tourism area, reached 528 people.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 patients in Bintan increased by 90 people to 2,534 people. Patients who recovered from COVID-19 increased by 11 people to 1,960 people. The number of patients who died from COVID-19 in Bintan increased by one person, bringing the number to 46.

"The beds for COVID-19 patients that have been used have reached 65.52 percent," he said.

Tjetjep said the number of COVID-19 patients in the Riau Islands increased by 403 people to 23,850 people. While active cases in five other areas, namely Batam, reached 1,531 people, Karimun 202 people, Anambas 22 people, Lingga 73 people, and Natuna 98 people.

While the number of patients who died from COVID-19 in the Riau Islands was six people, bringing it to 504 people. Patients who recovered from COVID-19 increased by 153 people to 20,163 people.
