Almost All COVID-19 Beds On The Island Of Java Are Over 80 Percent Filled
JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said the increase in COVID-19 cases resulted in a decrease in the bed occupancy ratio (BOR) for COVID-19 patients.
"The increase in cases was followed by an increase in the BOR or bed occupancy rates in the isolation room of the COVID-19 referral hospital", Wiku said in a press release, Wednesday, June 23.
In fact, the majority of provinces on the island of Java have an average BOR of more than 80 percent in the isolation room of a COVID-19 referral hospital. In fact, the normal threshold for BOR set by WHO is 60 percent.
As of June 21, DKI Jakarta's COVID-19 BOR was at 86.26 percent, in West Java at 86.36 percent, Central Java at 86.16 percent, DI Yogyakarta at 83.39 percent, and Banten at 82.77 percent.
"Only East Java Province has a BOR below 80 percent, which is 66.67 percent", said Wiku.
From the condition of the availability of isolation beds and ICUs that are running low, Wiku asks the local government to immediately increase the establishment of micro-scale community activity restrictions (PPKM) posts in each neighborhood.
This is because there are still many villages/sub-district that do not yet have a PPKM post. In fact, it is necessary to control the prevention of exposure to COVID-19 from a community scale.
"Of course, it has the potential to cause obstacles to good coordination of handling COVID-19 to the neighborhood level, so that it has an impact on not achieving the goals of the micro-scale PPKM itself", he said.

Based on data from the Task Force, PPKM posts in DKI Jakarta have only formed 34 percent, in West Java 53 percent, in Central Java 55 percent, in DIY 72 percent, in Banten 31 percent, and in East Java 40 percent.
Therefore, the Task Force asked the Governors in particular from these 6 provinces to immediately instruct the Regents and Mayors in their regions to improve the performance of Micro-scale PPKM.
"Once the post has been established, the next step is to ensure that all the tasks and functions of the post are carried out properly by each of the related elements", said Wiku.
"Remember, COVID-19 is a race against time and the guarantee is life. So, if all local governments can take anticipatory steps as early as possible, it can save many lives", he added.
