COVID-19 Cases In DKI Jakarta Soar, Jokowi Orders From Anies To The Regional Police Chief To Go To The Field More Often

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo summoned the ranks of the DKI Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) to the State Palace today to discuss the spike in COVID-19 cases in the capital city.

The DKI Jakarta Forkopimda consists of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan, Chairman of the DKI Jakarta Regional Representative Council (DPRD) Prasetio Edi Marsudi, Commander of the Jaya Regional Military Command Maj. Gen. Mulyo Aji, Regional Police Metro Jaya Chief Inspector General Fadil Imran, mayors, to the chiefs of police throughout Jakarta.

"Today we, Forkopimda, were summoned, directed by the President that the increase in COVID-19 in Jakarta has increased significantly", Prasetio told reporters, Tuesday, June.

During the meeting, Prasetio admitted that he received a directive from Jokowi who asked all ranks of Forkopimda to frequently go to the field to monitor the handling of COVID-19.

"The president directs us, we need field action. So if I look at it, the governor, we are Commander of the Jayakarta Military Regional Command (Pangdam Jaya), the Regional Police Chief must be in the field", he said

Moreover, currently, there are cases of mutations of the COVID-19 virus with the Delta variant or B1617.2 from India which were found in cases in Jakarta. Therefore, Jokowi asked DKI to accelerate the implementation of the COVID-19 vaccination.

"Vaccination in Jakarta must be fast. It's like in a port, crowded areas, it must be vaccinated. The pressures that the local government must do are the effects of Eid al-Fitr, the impact is now being felt", said Prasetio.

In addition, Jokowi at the meeting emphasized that compliance with the use of masks is the most effective "drug" to avoid COVID-19. So, Forkopimda ranks must be more serious in socializing the use of masks.

"It's no longer allowed outside, in densely populated villages, ports, that's a lot of people who don't believe in the existence of COVID.
