Elementary School Teacher In Baubau Involved In Drug Trafficking

JAKARTA - The police arrested an unscrupulous civil servant teacher at an elementary school in Baubau City, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) suspected of being involved in the illicit trafficking of class I narcotics of methamphetamine in the area.

Director of Drug Investigation of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police, Grand Commissioner Muhammad Eka Faturrahman in Kendari, Thursday, said the teacher with the initials WA, aged 35, was a civil servant at an elementary school in Baubau City.

"The teacher was arrested by the Baubau Police Narcotics Satres Team on Wednesday, June 9 at around 02.30 central Indonesia time, on Hoga street, Katobengke Village, Betoambari District, Baubau," said Eka through a release from the Southeast Sulawesi Police's Drug Directorate, as reported by Antara, Thursday, June 9.

He revealed that initially on Tuesday, June 8, at around 23.30 central Indonesia time, members of the Baubau Resort Police were on patrol, then received information from the community that on Hoga Street, precisely at the reported house, there would be transactions and abuse of meth.

"The information was immediately followed up and monitoring was carried out around Hoga Street. Then on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, an inspection and search were immediately carried out inside the reported house, then evidence was found (BB)," he said.

Eka said that at the home of the teacher, six clear plastic packages were found containing crystal granules suspected of having methamphetamine weighing 8.78 grams.

When interrogated, the person concerned admitted that the evidence suspected of being narcotics were obtained from someone whose identity was not known, but only recognized faces.

"The reported modus operandi was ordering and then receiving narcotics packages from friends with the aim of using them and selling them to other people," said Eka.

Currently the suspect and evidence are at the Baubau Police for further investigation and development.

The suspect was charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) subsidiary Article 112 paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics with the threat of a death penalty, life imprisonment for a minimum of six years, and a maximum of 20 years.
