NasDem Party Has No Problem If The General Election To Be Held In February 2024

JAKARTA - The NasDem Party has no problem with the schedule for the Simultaneous Election, both the Legislative and Presidential Elections being moved to February 2024 as a consequence of the simultaneous local elections being held in the same year.

Previously, the General Elections Commission (KPU) proposed that simultaneous elections be accelerated from April 21 to February 21, 2024. Followed by the simultaneous elections on November 20, 2024.

"There is no problem with NasDem Party in principle", said Secretary of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Nasdem Party Faction Saan Mustopa at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, June 3.

According to Saan, the KPU's proposal or planning needs to be considered to avoid conflicting stages during implementation. Because it will add a huge workload for KPU and Bawaslu.

"We want to avoid a stage that coincides. Of course, it will also have implications for the quality of the election itself", explained the deputy chairman of Commission II of the DPR.

In addition, he said, it is also necessary to consider the potential for a two-round presidential election process to occur. So there is time available for implementation.

"So, for example, there will be two rounds of the presidential election because there are more than two pairs because the law also provides space for two rounds, we assume that space must also be provided for two rounds", said Saan.
