Deputy Minister Of Health Dante Calls COVID-19 Cases For Elderly Groups Rise After Eid Al-Fitr
JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono reported that cases of COVID-19 transmission in the elderly group had increased after the 2021 Eid holiday.
"Until now, the number of cases has started to increase, but for the elderly, the proportion is almost the same", he said at a press conference for the 2021 Elderly Day which was delivered virtually on Thursday.
Dante said the increase in cases of COVID-19 transmission in the elderly group occurred because they were the goal of community gathering during the Eid holiday.
The number of cases that have so far entered the Ministry of Health shows an increasing graph. It is reported that an average of 5 thousand to 6 thousand cases occur daily after Eid.

Especially for the elderly, said Dante, prevention efforts through socialization and education to the public have been carried out by the government, long before the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
"But based on the age group, we will do further evaluation later", he said.
According to Dante, the government's efforts to prevent the elderly from being exposed to SARS-CoV-2 which causes COVID-19 during gatherings have been carried out through elderly vaccination activities.
"The increase in cases is still happening, but we hope that some vaccination activities in several places can protect the elderly so that the death rate is not too high", he said.
