Anies Baswedan Cycling With BPK Members, Commemorating World Bicycle Day
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan left for DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, this morning, Thursday, June 3, by using a bicycle from his residence in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta.
Wearing a batik shirt, black pants, and loafers, Anies was cycling this morning to commemorate World Bike Day, which falls today.
When he arrived at the Senayan roundabout, Anies joined the Bike to Work community members who also went to his office by bicycle. Together they rode on a permanent bicycle path along Sudirman-Thamrin.
Until finally, Anies arrived at the DKI City Hall. Anies said he cycled with a number of members of the Indonesian Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), the Dutch Ambassador, the Danish Ambassador, and the Bike to Work community.
"Alhamdulillah, we have arrived at City Hall. This morning, we all went to work by bicycle. June 3 is world cycling day, which we commemorate this morning by leaving the house by bicycle," said Anies at DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, Thursday, June 3.

By cycling from home to work wearing work clothes, Anies wants to encourage the habit of cycling as a means of transportation. Because, according to him, cycling is not only for exercise.
"We usually see bicycles as a sporting tool. That's fine, it can be continued, but it needs to be added. Therefore, cycling doesn't have to be a special bike, you don't have to wear special shoes, you don't have to wear special clothes. Use our daily clothes, use our normal bicycle. Then, use that bicycle for transportation," explained Anies.
From the example he showed, Anies admitted that he wanted his citizens to make the habit of cycling as a transportation activity, not just sports. This is because the DKI Provincial Government has provided various facilities for cyclists.
"From the government side, we have prepared the infrastructure, bicycle lanes, and even now there are permanent bicycle lanes. God willing, that way we will all become healthier and the city will automatically be healthier," he concluded.
