DPR: Indonesia's COVID-19 Vaccine Stocks Have Not Calmed Down

JAKARTA - Vice Chairman of Commission VI of the House of Representatives Martin Manurung assessed the current stock of COVID-19 vaccines is still not calm.

Because, with the number of people who have to be vaccinated at least 181 million people to achieve herd immunity, it takes a vaccine stock of 362 million for 2 injections per person.

Meanwhile, the number of vaccine stocks owned by Indonesia is only 83.9 million doses.
According to him, Indonesia's experience at the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic that seemed unprepared has made testing and tracing capacity not maximized. That is what makes many social restrictions to reduce the rate of transmission of COVID-19 such as the momentum of Eid al-Fitr.

Nasdem politicians also compared with Russia who has conducted PCR tests as many as 135 million for a population of about 144 million people. With that data, he said, Russia can manage pandemics in their countries with restrictions that no longer need to be too strict.

"Pandemic management like that should be done well so that there is no need for many strict restrictions", Martin said, Wednesday, May 26.

He stressed that the experience of testing and tracing should not be repeated for the stage of vaccination that is being run by the government.

Martin reminded the directors of SOEs not to repeat the same story about vaccination. Because the acceleration of vaccination in Indonesia is still very slow.

"And also the available stock also, sorry to say, we still can not see that the available stock it makes us calm. That everyone will be able to get vaccinated. Well, therefore we must shoulder to shoulder," said Martin.

To achieve these targets, North Sumatra electoral district legislators suggested that the succession of vaccinations should not only be charged to so-called SOEs but should involve all relevant stakeholders, including the private sector.

"If the only role is SOE, I think it will not be able to. So open the opportunity, if necessary gather all stakeholders in our society, as well as the business world, how we reach the 181 million herd immunity", said Martin.

The most important thing, he continued, is the recording done by both the Ministry of Health and stakeholders related to vaccination.

"Do not let the problem of vaccination is not repeated, so this pandemic then does not finish in us and very slow progress. It can also harm our population and our economy as well", Martin said.
