Slowannya Pemerintah Setapkan Status Bencana Nasional, DPR Akan Datang Ke Aceh Dan Sumatra

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission V DPR RI, Lasarus, highlighted the slow handling of major floods that hit a number of areas in Sumatra, especially regarding the determination of the status of national disasters. Lasarus stated that his commission would go directly to see the conditions after the floods and landslides that occurred in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra next week.

Lasarus emphasized that the central government should be able to determine the status of a national disaster if the local government is no longer able to handle the impact.

"If the status of a disaster is a government matter, I have conveyed it. The subjectivity is in the government. If it extends, there are many victims, and the government is overwhelmed with handling it, then the status should be set as a national disaster," said Lasarus, Saturday, December 6.

Nevertheless, Lasarus is waiting for the progress of disaster management by the central and regional governments, which so far believes that handling can still be done without raising this status. He highlighted that the government should continue to monitor developments in the field.

"But let's see. To this day there are still some points that cannot be opened yet," said the PDIP legislator.

Furthermore, Lasarus revealed that there are still 10 to 11 villages in Central Tapanuli Regency that cannot be accessed due to disasters. He received the information directly from the Regent of Tapteng, Masinton Pasaribu.

Therefore, Lasarus said, Commission V of the DPR had scheduled field visits to ensure factual conditions for disaster management.

"Kami Komisi V tanggal 10 akan ke sana, langsung ke lokasi mengunjungi Tapanuli Tengah. Ada juga nanti anggota Komisi V yang ke Padang ya. Yang Aceh kami belum pergi karena kita berbagai tugas dengan pemerintah sebagian besar masih juga di sana," ungkapnya.

In order to accelerate the disaster response, Lasarus said, Commission V of the DPR provides concessions for a number of ministries under partners, in this case the Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of Transportation, Basarnas to use internal funds. This is done to carry out inter-Directorate General or inter-Deputy turnover without the approval of the DPR.

"Asal is used by prioritizing transparency and accountability. That's one of the steps we take," he said.

In addition, Commission V of the DPR will also map out areas that need to be prioritized in financing the 2026 State Budget based on the results of field reviews.

"We will go there later to see which areas need to be prioritized in the 2026 State Budget," he concluded.
