Number Of Victims Increases, Police Accelerate Troop Delivery And Logistics To Disaster Locations

Deputy Chief of Police, Komjen Dedi Prasetyo, led the troop shift ceremony as well as the delivery of logistical assistance for disaster-affected areas in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

In the first phase today, the National Police Headquarters deployed at least 200 personnel of the emergency response force. However, for the first stage, the focus of delivery is directed to Medan and West Sumatra.

"We dispatched the first phase as many as 200 personnel today. As many as 200 other personnel we will deploy the next along with all logistics and supporting equipment. The first shipment is addressed to Medan and West Sumatra," said Komjen Dedi during an apple at the Air Police Headquarters Field, Pondok Cabe, Monday, December 1, 2025.

Dedi explained that the personnel deployed came from the Sabhara Corps, Brimob Corps, Health Center, DVI Team, Pusinafis, Animal Police, and K9 sniffer dog units. He also said that the decision to accelerate assistance was taken after the evaluation of disaster mitigation showed an increase in the number of victims in the three provinces.

The number of victims who died every day increased quite a lot, around 400 people. There are also many injured victims, and there are still a number of isolated districts," he said.

Dedi emphasized that the presence of Polri troops is expected to help open access to isolated areas, evacuate, and support the initial recovery after the disaster. Troops are also asked to be ready to face difficult situations on the ground.

"Friends are ready to face a really difficult situation, the mindset is. And there are no colleagues asking for help from the troops there," he said

Dedi said the troop delivery pattern was carried out based on the experience of handling major disasters such as the 2004 Aceh Tsunami and the 2019 Palu earthquake, where local forces were only able to last about 10 days because they were also affected by the disaster.

"Fresh troops are needed to help, replace, and strengthen troops who are already exhausted in the region. Damage is quite heavy and there are many victims, so additional personnel is absolutely necessary," he said.

In addition to SAR and evacuation tasks, the National Police will also support the local government as the leading sector for disaster management, including helping to open closed lanes and light construction work.

The National Police also dispatched a Trauma Healing team considering the large number of refugees.

"For North Sumatra alone, there are more than 30 thousand refugees, and in West Sumatra the number is also almost the same," he added

Dedi ordered the commanders to ensure that all personnel needs are met for the first week of the emergency response period, including complete operation, trauma healing facilities, and logistical support.

"We think in the next week it will be for an emergency response. After that, what needs our colleagues need," he explained.

Meanwhile, Karopenmas Divhumas Polri Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko added that strengthening personnel became the main focus after the affected areas entered the post-disaster phase.

"Mr. Deputy Chief of Police checked the troops in order to strengthen personnel in the field," he said

Trunoyudo revealed that the total personnel sent were 300 personnel from the Brimob Corps, 100 each for the three affected Polda.

Sabhara deployed 300 additional personnel, and Samapta sent 39 personnel. The K9 sniffer dog unit was also deployed specifically to strengthen the search for victims.

A total of 11 SAR dogs with a total of 39 handlers deployed," said Trunoyudo.

From the medical side, Pusdokkes sent 27 personnel in charge of handling health needs, identifying ante-mortem victims, and post-mortem support, as well as trauma healing support with 20 special personnel.

Brigadier General Trunoyudo emphasized that in the midst of this large mobilization, the National Police continued to prioritize cross-institutional synergy.

"With the collaboration of BNPB/BPBD, local governments, TNI, and other stakeholders, the acceleration of aid continues to be pursued," he stressed.

The National Police also offered prayers for victims affected by natural disasters in the three provinces. In addition, the personnel sent were also given strength while carrying out humanitarian duties.

He emphasized that all the strengths of the surrounding regional police had also moved to support, ranging from the Riau Regional Police, Jambi, Lampung, to East Java and Banten, with assistance distributed both by air and land.
