707 BTS Towers Successfully Recovered In Three Provinces Of Sumatra, Communication Services Back To Normal

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) said that residents of a number of sub-districts in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra Provinces could reconnect with the internet.

This is in line with the recovery of 707 Base Transceiver Station (BTS) towers which have been successfully restored in the last 24 hours. Thus, residents affected by floods and landslides can return to contact their family members.

Before this report was submitted, Komdigi stated that 2,463 towers in a number of provinces had been disturbed since last Friday, November 28. The recovery of 707 towers also leaves 1,756 towers that are still experiencing disruption.

The most BTS towers recovered were in Aceh Province with a total of 564 towers. Meanwhile, in North Sumatra Province, 112 towers were successfully re-operated and in West Sumatra Province only 31 towers have been recovered.

For the total tower that is not yet functioning, in Aceh Province there are still 975 towers out of a total of 3,414 disrupted towers. Meanwhile, North Sumatra Province still has 707 towers that have not recovered, out of a total of 9,612 towers.

In West Sumatra Province, there are still 74 towers out of 3,739 towers that are still in the process of being repaired. During the process of repairing this tower, Komdigi is committed to coordinating closely with all cellular operators to accelerate recovery.

Komdigi also not only focuses on repairing BTS towers, but also on the backbone or backbone of the network. The backbone line in North Sumatra that connects the Rantau - Padang Sidempuan section and the Sibolga - Barus - Manduamas section has been restored after previously breaking up due to landslides.

In addition, backbone lines in the Aceh region, namely the Banda Aceh - Bireun and Samalanga sections, are currently also reported to have recovered. This success is important to ensure stability of communication in all affected areas.
