KPU Proposes To DPR For Legislative-Presidential Election On February 2024, Local Election On November
JAKARTA - Vice Chairman of Commission II of the House of Representatives Luqman Hakim agreed with the proposal of the KPU related to the timing of the general election and the election of the regional head presented in the Joint Working Team Meeting related to the design and concept of the 2024 Election.
According to him, in the closed meeting, the KPU proposed a vote for the legislative elections and presidential elections on February 21, 2024, while the local elections on November 20, 2024.
"I think the proposal of the KPU is enough. The meeting was much discussed, including when the election stage began, then the schedule of elections," Said Luqman Hakim as quoted by Antara, Monday, May 24.
Luqman gave a note related to the implementation of elections in 2024 because in 1 year there are two major political activities so it must be really good in its implementation.
The implementation of elections in April, not in early 2024, for example, it is feared that the election dispute will not be resolved in August 2024.
"The nomination of local elections according to the Law must be based on the results of the last election so that if until August the election dispute has not been resolved, it will disrupt the stage of the election. Meanwhile, the Law has set a schedule for local elections in November 2024," he said.
If the vote of legislative/presidential election in February 2024, according to the PKB politicians, the election dispute must be completed in July so that the end of July 2024 can already be determined the acquisition of the 2024 Election that becomes the basis of the parliament to submit candidates in the elections.
According to him, some parties consider the implementation in February 2024 has entered the rainy season and the budget is still difficult because of the beginning of the year.

That, he said, should not be too worried because it can be prepared in advance.
"When it comes to the weather when it rains will not interfere, moreover we can not guess whether January will rain or not, like yesterday it rained even in March. Therefore, the weather is not a crucial factor so the election in February is the right choice," he said.
In addition, Luqman explained the Joint Working Team Meeting between Commission II of the House of Representatives and the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), KPU, Bawaslu, and DKPP on Monday, May 24, in private because it is still the stage of listening to exposure from the KPU related to the design of the 2024 Election.
"This Joint Working Team will eventually develop the design and stages of elections. Because it's still very early, it's closed and the discussion is still very raw," he said.
