Tokyo District Court Orders Cloudflare To Pay IDR 53.2 Billion To These 4 Publishers Because Of Steel Manga
JAKARTA - The Tokyo District Court ordered Cloudflare to pay around 500 million yen or equivalent to Rp53.2 billion to four Japanese publishers. Each Kadokawa, Kodansha, Shueisha, and Shogakukan. Cloudflare is said to facilitate copyright infringement.
According to a joint statement from the plaintiffs, quoted from Sputnik Thursday, November 20, Cloudflare has been notified that the US company's CDN (content delivery network) service is used by two major sites to broadcast more than 4,000 pirated Japanese comic titles.
Both sites have recorded more than 300 million visits per month.
The publishers also asked Cloudflare to stop the distribution of pirated content from its managed cyclists.
However, the company still provides services to the two sites even though they have received reports.
They also stated that in another case, Cloudflare continued to distribute pirated content after receiving reports of violations, so they filed a lawsuit on February 1, 2022.
The court stated that Cloudflare allowed content hijacking sites to operate "under conditions ensuring high anonymity" without identity verification, the joint statement said.
