Israel's Spyware Can't Be Deleted On Samsung's Phone? This Is The Explanation
JAKARTA - A controversy has resurfaced regarding the default application on a number of lower middle class Samsung devices circulating in several countries. The application, called AppCloud, sparked concern because it was referred to as spyware that users could not remove.
AppCloud is a third-party application recommendation service that appears when users first set up the Samsung Galaxy A, M, and F series devices. This service is also active after the system update. Many users consider it just bloatware that is difficult to turn off and is one way for Samsung to earn additional income from cheap valuable devices.
The source of the controversy comes from the developer company AppCloud, namely ironSource, a company founded in Israel and now under the auspices of Unity. This link with Israel sparked suspicions that AppCloud could be used as a means of spying on users, especially in Africa, the Middle East, and India.

This concern has increased due to:
AppCloud cannot be removed as a regular app, as it is installed as a system application.
Deletion can only be done using ADB orders, something that is not widely known to general users.
The history of ironSource previously through a product called installCore which has been labeled as a potential unwanted program (PUP) by several antiviruses because it automatically installs additional applications on the computer.
However, there is no strong evidence that the AppCloud is used for wiretapping or surveillance activities.
Samsung has yet to provide an official statement regarding this controversy. With the greater the public spotlight, it is possible that Samsung will provide the option to disable or remove the AppCloud in the future, although this has yet to be confirmed.
