19 African Citizens Deported From US To Ghana Unknown

JAKARTA - At least 19 West African citizens (WN) who were deported by the US to Ghana have been transferred to an unknown location.

Dozens of West African citizens arrived in Ghana on November 5 and were placed in a hotel. They were deported to be protected from their home countries because of the risk of torture, abuse, or inhumane treatment.

However, Ana Dionne-Lanier, a lawyer for a Ghanaian citizen who was deported, said she and her client's family had not been able to contact her.

"At this time, we don't know where they are", Dienne-Lanier told AP on Thursday local time.

Dionne-Lanier added that some of the groups were sent by bus to an unknown border location last weekend and Monday this week.

While the second group, which included its clients, were removed under tight armed guard from the hotel around Wednesday.

Until now, the Ghanaian government has not commented on this matter.

Dozens of African citizens have been deported from the US since July 2025 after US President Donald Trump's Administration reached a largely secret agreement with at least five African countries including Eswatini, Rwanda, and South Sudan to receive migrants under the new third-state deportation program.
