Dibui 5 Tahun, Pengulis Boualem Sansal Dibebaskan Algeria Atas Permintaan Jerman
JAKARTA - Algerian writer Boualem Sansal is scheduled to temporarily stay in Berlin, Germany, for medical treatment.
A source revealed to AFP, Friday, November 14, Sansal, arriving in Berlin after Algeria approved Germany's request that the 81-year-old author be forgiven and released from prison on humanitarian grounds.
The source described Sansal as an "euphoric" figure for his clemency and release and said he was "thinking clearly given the situation."
Sansal was sentenced to five years in March 2025 on charges of undermining Algerian territorial integrity for a statement he made in French media.
According to his family, Sansal has prostate cancer.
He was taken to the Berlin military hospital immediately after landing in Germany on Wednesday night.
