UI Innovation Festival 2025: Heart University Of Development Based On Research And Innovation

JAKARTA Universitas Indonesia (UI) officially launched the 2025 University of Indonesia Innovation Festival (UIIF) activity at Mall Semanggi, South Jakarta, on Thursday, November 13, 2025. This event was inaugurated directly by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation at the University of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Hamdi Muluk, M.Si, and attended by the Project Director of UIIF, Apt. Indah Handayani, S.Farm., as well as the Head of the Domestic Cooperation Team of the Directorate General of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Erni Purnamasari.

In his remarks, Prof. Hamdi emphasized that developed countries are building their economy through research and innovation. Therefore, Indonesia must abandon its dependence on exports of raw natural resources and begin to strengthen the knowledge-based sector.

"We are no longer selling goods in a raw state. This is what we must encourage. The university is indeed the heart of research and innovation-based development," said Prof. Hamdi.

He explained that the University of Indonesia currently has more than 400 excellent laboratories and research groups containing researchers in various strategic fields. According to him, UI already has a superior research and research database that is ready to be linked to the industrial world to encourage downstream research results.

"The data is all there. So, we have a superior database of researchers for fields that can later produce industrial ready products starting from making prototypes, testing, to being ready to be industrialized," he added.

Furthermore, Prof. Hamdi explained that UI carries two approaches in advancing research, namely Technology Push and Demand Pull. The Technology Push concept focuses on offering research results to be sterilized, while Demand Pull is carried out by mapping out industrial needs so that researchers can present relevant solutions.

"We can offer research results to the industry, or we ask directly to the industry: what do you need? Later we will meet with the researchers. All the results of this research are expected to strengthen the national economy," said Prof. Hamdi.

Meanwhile, Project Director of UIIF 2025, Apt. Indah Handayani, S.Farm., explained that this activity aims to promote the results of research by the University of Indonesia to the wider community, especially the younger generation.

"Through this UI Innovation Festival, we want to show that there are many potentials in Indonesia that can be developed through research and innovation to produce economic value," he said.

Indah also emphasized the importance of protecting Intellectual Property Rights (HKI) so that domestic research and innovation results can be protected and compete globally.

"So that we can develop and not lose to other countries. Many foreign products patent their innovations, so Indonesian products must also be strong with the protection of the HKI," he said.

The same thing was conveyed by the Head of the Domestic Cooperation Team of the Directorate General of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, which assessed that intellectual property protection is very important to support the independence of national innovation.

The UI Innovation Festival (UIIF) 2025 activity lasted for three days, from November 13 to 15, 2025, displaying a variety of superior research results from the University of Indonesia which is expected to become a bridge between the academic world, industry, and society in strengthening the innovation ecosystem in Indonesia.
