Attempts To Explode Bombs At SMAN 72 Jakarta Accompanied By Suicide, But Failed

JAKARTA - The police revealed new facts in the explosion case at SMAN 72 Jakarta, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. After conducting a series of crime scene investigations (TKP) and investigations, investigators confirmed that the perpetrator deliberately blew himself up after the first explosion occurred in the school mosque area.

"Intentionally, blow it up on the head," said Director of General Criminal Investigation (Dirkrimum) Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Iman Imanuddin to reporters, Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

Iman explained that the results of the investigation showed that there were two explosion points at the location. The first explosion occurred at the school mosque using a remote trigger, while the second explosion occurred at a different location, where the perpetrator was found in a serious head injury.

The person concerned during the first explosion was still in the mosque area. After that, there was a second explosion in another location, and there he was found to have suffered head injuries," he explained.

Furthermore, Iman said, the second explosion was known to use the manual axis. Based on the results of the interim investigation, the action was allegedly carried out intentionally by the perpetrator.

"For this second explosion, it uses an axis. From the results of the interim investigation, the action was carried out on purpose. There is a specific purpose, but we are still investigating the detailed motive," said Budi.

Currently, the perpetrator has undergone surgery due to serious head injuries and is undergoing a period of medical and psychological recovery.

"The person concerned has undergone surgery and is currently recovering. We are prioritizing recovery efforts, both medically and psychologically," he concluded.

Previously, the Gegana Satbrimob Polda Metro Jaya Team revealed the results of the crime scene (TKP) for the explosion at SMAN 72 North Jakarta. From the results of the police investigation, two different types of bombs were found.

Dansat Brimob Polda Metro Jaya, KBP Henik Maryanto explained that the first explosion occurred at the school mosque, where officers found two craters on the floor, signaling that two bombs were detonated at the location.

From the mosque's crime scene, we found pieces of plastic, bag pieces, steel nails and zinc as fragments (shrapnels), VCP boards, and four A4 batteries which became six-volt power sources. This series is an active bomb controlled by remote control," he said.
