Rumbling From Crater 2 Of Mount Karangetang, PGA: Activities Level 2

JAKARTA - The head of the Volcano Observation Post (PGA), Yudia P Tatipang, said that there were often weak to moderate roars from the crater of two ( north) of Mount Karangetang, on Siau Island, Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi (Sulut).

"The roar from the two craters indicates a release of energy. It (the rumbling sound), is often heard," said Yudia Tatipang in Manado, Monday, as reported by Antara.

From the seismic activity recorded on Sunday 9 November, namely 145 gust earthquakes with amplitudes: 7.5-50 millimeters for 25.17-30.13 seconds, five non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes: 20-30 millimeters for 49.31-71.86 seconds).

There were also four harmonic tremors recorded, with amplitudes: 20-25 millimeters, duration 54.12-60.73 seconds, two shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes: 10-15 millimeters, duration: 6.17-7.06 seconds, three distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes: 20-50 millimeters, S-P: 13.86-54.47 seconds, duration: 87.96-4665.56 seconds.

"The level of activity of Mount Karangetang Level II (Alert)," said Yudia.

He hopes that residents on Siau Island comply with recommendations, including the public and visitors / tourists do not approach, do not climb and do not move in the hazard forecast zone, namely a radius of 1.5 kilometers from the peak of the second hanah (northern area) and the main crater (south) as well as sectoral expansion areas to the southwest and south as far as 2.5 kilometers.

Beware of lava avalanches and hot clouds avalanches that can occur at any time from the previous buildup of lava material because its condition is unstable and easily collapsed, especially to the south, southeast, west and southwest sectors.

People living around the banks of rivers that originate from the summit are expected to increase preparedness from the potential threat of rain lava and flash floods that can flow to the coast.
