KAI Prepares Additional Train Series From INKA And China

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has prepared a series of additional trains (train sets) for procurement from PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA) and a company from China to strengthen the Jabodetabek Commuter Line KRL service.

President Director of PT KAI Bobby Rasyidin said the company had ordered 12 train sets from INKA and 11 train sets from China.

"We have ordered 12 train sets to INKA, we have ordered 11 train sets to China," said Bobby at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Monday, November 3, as reported by ANTARA.

Bobby explained, of the total orders to China, eight series have been fully operational, while three others are currently undergoing a technical qualification process with the Directorate General of Railways and are targeted to be operational in the near future.

"This month we will operate three more, so the total is until the end of the year we will operate 11," he said.

Meanwhile, four of the 12 INKA production series have been received by PT KAI and are now in the technical test phase. The entire series is targeted to be fully operational by the middle of next year.

"The target with the INKA train until the middle of next year will be 12 operations," said Bobby.

The President Director of KAI explained that the addition of the KRL fleet was a follow-up to the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, so that public transportation services, especially the Jabodetabek KRL, would be more comfortable for the community.

This step is expected to increase passenger transport capacity, especially during rush hour.

"He said that it had to be as comfortable as possible, earlier I also explained that now that during peak hours, our KRL was already close together, he was very concerned about it, so he conveyed it as soon as possible, so that the impact on the people was very positive, we quickly added carriages," he said.

In July 2024, President Director of the Indonesian Railway (KAI) Didiek Hartantyo confirmed the order for eight additional train sets from Chinese manufacturer CRRC Sifang.

With the addition of these orders, a total of 11 train series will be imported from China and the plan is to start shipping to Indonesia in 2025.
