Everton Vs Wolves 1-0: Richarlison Turns On The Toffees' Hope To Get European Tickets

JAKARTA - Richarlison ignited Everton's hopes of winning a qualifying ticket for European competition after his goal sealed a narrow 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton in Week 37 of the Premier League at Goodison Park Stadium, Liverpool, Wednesday local time (Thursday western Indonesia time).

An additional three points brought Everton back up to eighth place in the standings with a collection of 59 points, after being evicted by Leeds United (59) a day ago.

Everton has now matched the points tally of sixth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United but had to take a lower position due to inferiority on goal difference.

However, Everton's chances are still open, especially if the two competitors slipped in the final match.

As for Wolves (45), who extended a poor trend of a midweek match without a win in their last 13 appearances, did not move from 12th place, Antara reported according to the official Premier League website.

The first half ended goalless after both teams were able to break their respective attacks.

Wolverhampton had two dangerous chances with Morgan Gibbs-White's long-range volley and Adama Traore's powerful shot in front of the goal, but both were brilliantly countered by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

While the hosts got a good chance four minutes before halftime in a corner kick situation, unfortunately, Richarlison's finish hit the Wolves player and eventually deviated from the target.

The stalemate broke three minutes into the second half when Gylfi Sigurdsson's corner was met by Richarlison's header at the near post to outwit goalkeeper John Ruddy and put Everton in the lead over Wolves.

The goal made Everton more comfortable in attacking the Wolves defense and Dominic Calvert-Lewin had the chance to double the hosts' lead in the 72nd minute, unfortunately, his finish on Richarlison's through ball went straight into Ruddy's arms.

Then Sigurdsson fired two long-range shots, which were only slightly off the side of the Wolves goal in the 77th minute and six minutes later.

Everton failed to increase the margin of excellence but the 1-0 win was clearly a positive asset for Carlo Ancelotti's team ahead of a visit to champions Manchester City for the season finale on Sunday, May 23.

In another match that takes place at the same time, Wolves will host Manchester United at Molineux.
