Qualcomm Releases Snapdragon 778 5G Chipset, Premium Features For Mid-Range Phones

JAKARTA - The smartphone semiconductor company from the United States, Qualcomm, introduced its new 700 series System on Chipset (SoC). Named Snapdragon 778 5G, this brand-new chipset offers premium features on mid-range mobile phones.

According to the plan, the Snapdragon 778 5G will soon be used by premium mid-range phones. Starting from Motorola, Realme, Oppo, Xiaomi, Honor, to iQOO. And the first cellphone that's ready to be equipped with it is the Honor 50 series.

The premium features that have been implanted by the company include video capture and Artificial Intelligence taken from Snapdragon 888. As is known, the Snapdragon 888 chipset is currently the serial choice for various flagship Android phones.

Citing an official release shared by the company, the presence of the Snapdragon 778 5G complements the premium mid-end variant. The device segment is usually supported by several premium features but at a more affordable price.

This means that this chipset will be another alternative to the Snapdragon 780G, an SoC for the same segment which was launched last March. So, what is the technology that underlies this brand-new SoC? This is the description that VOI editorial team managed to compile from various sources.

Smoother Graphic Rendering

The Snapdragon 778G is supported by the Kryo 670 CPU, which according to the company's explanation is able to increase overall CPU performance by up to 40 percent. Meanwhile, the Adreno 642L GPU is designed to be capable of rendering graphics 40 percent faster than the previous generation.

This mid-range gaming chipset comes with the latest AI Engine, which is the sixth generation. This feature in particular improves the quality of video and telephone calls. Not only that but there are also features that can suppress noise and a video call camera that is supported by AI technology.

On the camera side, the processor has three ISPs. As a result, users can take photos of one object using three lenses at once. These include wide, ultra-wide, and zoom lens modes.

As for video capture, the 778G 5G supports HDR10 + quality captures. That way, users can get recordings that have more dramatic colors and contrast.

As mentioned above, the 778G supports 5G internet connections. Also equipped with Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6 technology. So, the internet speed and data transfer can be faster.

Features for gaming have also been improved. The company added the Snapdragon Elite Gaming feature. Consists of Qualcomm Game Quick Touch which can increase control response by up to 20 percent and Variable Rate Shading.
