China Claims 99.6 Percent Of Electric Vehicle Battery Successfully Recycled

JAKARTA China has again shown its dominance in the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem. The local government announced the success of recovering important materials from electric vehicle (EV) batteries that have retired with an efficiency rate of up to 99.6 percent.

This achievement occurred after the implementation of a new national standard for the battery demolition and recycling process, as quoted from Carnewschina, Saturday, October 18. Based on a report by the China Public Market Supervisory Agency (General Administration of Market Supervision), there are five additional standards that have just been approved.

As a result, there are a total of 22 standards that now apply nationally. These rules include general guidelines, management methods, and EV battery dismantling procedures to make them more environmentally friendly and efficient.

In practice, recycling companies in China managed to reach a recovery rate of up to 99.6 percent for nickel, cobalt, and manganese, while the successfully returned lithium reached 96.5 percent. This figure is the highest achievement so far and shows that an integrated recycling system can produce economic and ecological benefits at once.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also formed a national technical committee consisting of battery industry players, electric vehicle manufacturers, and chemical waste managers. The committee is tasked with ensuring the uniformity of battery recycling standards in various sectors, ranging from automotive, marine, to energy storage.

Apart from the national level, China is also actively encouraging international cooperation. Experts from the country play a role in developing global standards under the International Electronic Commission (IEC) organization.

One of their proposals entitled General Guidelines for Deep Discharge in Battery Recycling and Utilization' has even been approved into an international standard project. This move confirms China's ambition to become a world leader in EV battery waste management.

High efficiency in material recovery such as nickel and lithium not only reduces production costs, but also reduces dependence on mining of new raw materials that have a major impact on the environment.
