MCCI Affirms Environmental Commitment Through Sustainable Waste Management

JAKARTA - PT Merak Chemicals Indonesia (MCCI) continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainable environmentally friendly industrial practices. This is reflected in the implementation of an integrated waste management system with third-party partners who have official competence and certification in the field of processing and utilization of industrial waste.

This collaboration has been ongoing as part of MCCI's environmental strategy to ensure the entire production process is efficient, safe, and responsible for the environment. Through this partnership, MCCI cooperates with licensed waste management partners to collect, store, transport, and final processing in accordance with applicable environmental regulations.

MCCI President Director Anang Adji Sunoto said waste management also includes material recovery efforts that still have value to support the circular economy in the chemical industry sector. He emphasized that the company is committed to ensuring that all stages of waste management are carried out in a safe, transparent and sustainability-oriented manner.

"This cooperation is not only a form of compliance with regulations, but also our concrete steps to build a more efficient and environmentally friendly production system," said Anang in an official statement in Jakarta, Monday, October 13.

Furthermore, he explained that one of the important principles in the MCCI waste management system is to ensure that the suitability between the type and volume of waste generated is by the management partners.

"This means that what we produce must be the same as those treated in processing facilities, so that data differences or errors do not occur in the management process," he said.

To avoid potential obstacles in the management process, MCCI has also prepared risk mitigation policies without relying on just one waste management partner.

"So that MCCI is not constrained in waste management, we have a policy that partners should not only have one, but must be more than one. The goal is to anticipate if there is a disturbance, both on the road, in the company, and in terms of business," explained Anang.

All policies and practices of MCCI waste management are carried out by referring to the principles of the ISO Environmental Management System 14001:2015, as a form of the company's commitment to international standards in controlling environmental impacts.

"Through the implementation of this system, MCCI ensures that every waste production and management process is within the framework of measurable, sustainable, and in line with national regulations," he explained.

In addition, MCCI ensures that there is a periodic monitoring and audit mechanism by independent institutions to ensure that all waste management processes run according to national and international standards. The company also has a contingency system so that in the event of a force majeure at one of the processing sites, waste can still be handled safely through designated alternative partners.

The results of the implementation of this waste management will later be reported in a sustainability report issued annually, equipped with data on environmental performance achievements and indicators.

"Transparency is the key for us. We want every stakeholder, both regulators, customers, and the public to see MCCI's real commitment in protecting the environment," concluded Anang.
