Fadli Zon Calls the UN Security Council Has No Authority about Israel Bombarding Palestine

JAKARTA - The Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the House of Representatives (DPR) highlights the weak attitude of the United Nations in addressing Israeli aggression against The Palestinians.

The BKSAP DPR RI assesses the failure of the UN Security Council in taking decisive action against Israel can erode the credibility of the intergovernmental global institutions.

"In relation to that, there is an urgent urgency to strengthen the role of the United Nations including to make the UN more democratic and independent and authoritative", BKSAP DPR Chairman Fadli Zon said on his Twitter account, Saturday, May 15, evening.

According to him, the BKSAP DPR considers that all forms of condemnation and condemnation of the world for more than seven decades proved not to make Israel deterrent. On the contrary, Israel is increasingly confident that the international community will not take any concrete action against them.

"Therefore, the global community must take more tangible and earnest steps to stop Israel's arrogance through all means including considering the idea of sending international peacekeepers to conflict zones under the U.N. flag, initiating Israel's anti-Zionist 'international petition', and effectively the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel", Fadli Zon wrote.

Seeing Israel continuing to bombard Palestine, the BKSAP DPR fully supports the emergency meeting held by the UNSC and the Organization of Islamic Conferences (OIC) on Sunday, May 16, today.

Fadli is very hopeful that the meeting can produce concrete decisions. Especially to save the lives of Palestinians and revive the negotiation process.

"This is the momentum for the UN to enforce international laws that have been tangled up against Israel", he said.

Some of these include U.N. Security Council Resolution No. 242 of 1967 that calls for Israel to withdraw its military forces from occupied areas since the 1967 war. UNSC Resolution No. 298 of 1971 states that all efforts Israel has taken to change Jerusalem's status including land seizures are illegal.

"And UN General Assembly Resolution No. 181 of 1947 which established Jerusalem as a territory under the international authority and granted the separate legal and political status", Fadli Zon wrote.
