Chronology Of The Death Of Amikom Yogyakarta Students, Falls After Tear Gas
YOGYAKARTA - A student of Amikom (Informatics and Computer Management Academy) Yogyakarta, Rheza Sendy Pratama (21) died when there was a riot in front of the Yogyakarta Special Police Headquarters (Mapolda DIY), Sunday (31/8/2025). What is the chronology of the death of the Amikom Jogja student?
Rheza is a student of the 2023 class Communications Sciences Study Program who is currently studying in the V semester at the campus. Reporting from Antara, Rheza's father, Yoyon Surono, found a number of wounds on his son's body.
According to his explanation, wounds were found on the neck, scar on the face, and also abrasions on the legs and hands. He also said that there was a change in white under Rheza's eyes which was suspected of being exposed to tear gas. However, Yoyon made up not to ask for an autopsy, because he believed that what happened to his son was a disaster.
Reporting from Antara, Monday (01/09/2025), the Student Executive Board (BEM) of Amikom University, Yogyakarta, said Rheza was also present at the demonstration in Yogyakarta on Sunday (31/8/2025). When the situation started to heat up, the motorcycle he was driving died while turning around. At the same time, the authorities fired tear gas and made Rheza fall.
The colleague who was riding with Rheza managed to save himself, but Rheza, who had fallen, was said to have been approached by the authorities. BEM regretted and was concerned about what happened to one of his colleagues and had to take lives.
"This death is not only grief for the family, but also caning for all of us. A student, a child of the nation, fell not because of illness or ordinary disaster, but in a struggle room that should be preserved by his honor," he wrote.
"We lost a friend, but we must not lose power fighting," he added.
Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs at Amikom University, Yogyakarta, Achmad Fauzi, who was also present at the funeral home, expressed his concern and deep sorrow for the incident that happened to his student.
He also said that this kind of incident should not have happened.
"Although (the incident) is also beyond our monitoring and control, these are our students so an investigation must be carried out," said Fauzi.
Achmad Fauzi also hopes that the police can provide a complete explanation to the campus regarding the incident. In addition, he encouraged coordination between the police and the university to thoroughly investigate the incident that happened to one of his students.
