BPBD Records 254 Damaged Houses Affected By The M 5.8 Poso Earthquake
JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi (Sulteng) reported that around 254 houses were damaged due to the impact of the 5.8 magnitude earthquake (M) rocked the area.
"Until the fifth day after the earthquake, the local government (Pemda) continues to carry out assessments, the data is still being presented (dynamically) because it has not been locked," said BPBD Disaster Management Officer Poso Sofyan, who was contacted from Palu, Thursday.
He said hundreds of damaged houses consisted of 172 units of lightly damaged category and 82 units of heavily damaged category.
The damaged houses were spread across 19 villages and three sub-districts, namely Maranda, Kilo, Trimuya, Tumota, North Coast 21 sub-district, were lightly damaged and seven heavily damaged.
Then Toowu, Masani, Bega, Lape, Tokorondo, Ueralulu, Masamba, Tabalu, Tiwaa Villages, Samaru, Poso Pesisir 72 sub-districts were lightly damaged and 25 were heavily damaged, then Tangkuta, Pantongolemba, Tauncu, Paadalembara, Patiwunga Pesisir Selatan 79 sub-districts were heavily damaged and 50 were heavily damaged.
"There was also damage to houses of worship totaling 14 units consisting of 12 lightly damaged units and two heavily damaged," he said.
BPBD also reported that around 10 units of school buildings/education facilities were damaged, one of which was heavily damaged and the rest slightly damaged.

Until now, the Poso Hospital Authority (RS) is still treating patients at the evacuation post in the RD yard, because they are worried that aftershocks will occur while facilitating the evacuation process.
"The Poso Regency Government and the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) have coordinated to help recover after the earthquake, including the BNPB's commitment to help repair residents' houses damaged by the disaster," said Sofyan.
According to data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) until the fifth day after the big earthquake or Thursday (21/8) morning, there were 137 aftershocks in Poso with a magnitude of 3 and above as many as 126 shocks, 10 shocks below magnitude 3 and one magnitude 4 shock.
In the emergency response status of the Poso earthquake that lasted for 14 from August 18 to 31, 2025, efforts were made by the local government, namely meeting the basic needs of clothing and food for affected communities.
"We continue to make efforts to accelerate disaster management with volunteers who are already engaged in the field, especially the fulfillment of logistical assistance for foodstuffs to earthquake victims," he said.
