Indonesia-China Hold Military Exercises Near Jakarta, KRI Usman Harun Deployed

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) and Chinese Navy held joint military exercises in waters near Jakarta.

As reported by Antara, Tuesday, May 11, the exercise, which took place on May 8, was to improve coordination in the face of emergency situations at sea, said CGTN, China's official broadcast channel.

In the 47-second video, CGTN shows images of the deployment of two units of Chinese-owned controlled frigates, Liuzhou and Suqian, along with the preparedness of its personnel in the face of training with the TNI-AL.

From the TNI-AL deployed warships of the Republic of Indonesia (KRI) Usman Harun and KRI Halasan, respectively, a type of frigate and missile guard.

The joint training materials include communications, search, and rescue operations, as well as maneuver formations.

Previously the Chinese military also deployed its fleet to assist in the removal of the wreckage of the KRI Nanggala-402 submarine that sank in waters north of Bali.

There were three Chinese navy ships sent to assist with the removal of the KRI Nanggala-402, one of which was hull-863 which weighed 13,000 tons.

The three Chinese ships are different from the ships deployed for training with the TNI-AL in Jakarta.
