MTI: PT KAI Consistently Carry Out Commitment To Sustainability Principles
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI) assesses that PT Kereta Api Indonesia is consistent in carrying out and continuing its commitment to the principle of sustainability through the implementation of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) and various decarbonization initiatives to realize sustainable transportation in Indonesia.
"I think the train journey is good, because I see that PT KAI's commitment to always continuing and consistently continues," said Deputy General Chairperson (Waketum) of Empowerment and Strengthening of Indonesian Transportation Community Area Djoko Setijowarno, quoted by Antara, Friday, August 15.
According to him, the commitment of sustainability principles such as ESG and the decarbonization initiative that continues to be carried out by PT KAI is consistently good and always accompanied by new innovations from PT KAI.
"I think this is a pretty good thing. The innovation is there," he said.
Djoko hopes that PT KAI can continue to maintain and continue the existing commitments and achievements, while having other new innovations that are more environmentally friendly.
"Things that are already good, the existing achievements will be continued, while having new innovations that are environmentally friendly, safe, and make it easier for consumers," he said.
Meanwhile, KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba said KAI had prepared a Sustainability Policy as an effort to ensure the Company's sustainability performance went according to KAI's vision and mission.
This policy is designed as a form of compliance with the Company with compliance with the Regulation of the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises of the Republic of Indonesia Number PER-2/MBU/03/2023 concerning Guidelines for Governance and Corporate Activities Significant State-Owned Enterprises, the aspirations of shareholders, and applicable laws and regulations.
"Through this policy, KAI seeks to create long-term value for stakeholders by adopting comprehensive and relevant sustainability practices. This policy reflects KAI's commitment to integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects in every operational activity in supporting sustainability, transparency, and human resource development within the organization," said Anne.
KAI also runs a decarbonization program, which focuses on transitioning to the use of carbon-free New Renewable Energy Sources (EBT) in operational activities so as not to produce carbon at all in the combustion process.

KAI, explained Anne, has implemented Solar Power Plants (PLTS) or Solar Panels at the Jakarta Railway Center Building, 53 KAI Stations, Yasa Lahat Hall, Yasa Surabaya Gubeng Hall, Yasa Tegal Hall, Griya Karya Soka, Griya Karya Cipinang, Griya Karya Banjar, Griya Karya Kertosono, Daop 2 Bandung Office, and Palembang Divre III Office. The PLTS is operated through the Solar Panel on Grid system which combines electricity supply from PLN electricity networks and Solar Panel electricity networks to meet electricity needs in operational areas.
"The KAI decarbonization program focuses on utilizing clean energy, innovation of transportation technology, which is in line with national missions in supporting the energy transition and achieving net zero emissions," said Anne.
