Taiwan Opens Opportunities For Medical Study With Promising Medical Career
JAKARTA - For Indonesian students who want to have a career in the medical industry such as becoming a doctor or nurse, Taiwan has now emerged as one of the promising goals of foreign studies.
Taiwan offers medical and nursing education with modern facilities, complete education levels, and relatively affordable living expenses compared to many other countries with equal quality.
Chairman of the Indonesian Taiwan Alumni Image Association (ICATI) Jakarta, Simon Hu, said, Taiwan has its own attractiveness for Indonesian students, especially for those who want to pursue higher education.
"Taiwan has a global reputation in the research and technology sector," he said on the sidelines of the Taiwan Higher Education Fair 2025 which was held at Pullman Jakarta Central Park, on August 9.
According to Simon, Indonesian students can choose various levels of education in the medical field, ranging from public medical undergraduate programs, dentistry, to certain specialties.
Nursing programs are also available from diploma to postgraduate levels, with many scholarships offered by universities, Taiwan governments, and ICATI alumni networks.
In addition, the interest of Indonesian students in the medical and scientific fields in Taiwan can be seen from the high number of participants at the educational exhibition. This year, 48 universities were present to bring various offers for scholarship studies and opportunities.

"Many of our students choose to study medicine or nursing in Taiwan, although there will be challenges when they want to practice in Indonesia because they have to go through a re-certification process," explained Simon.
The challenge, he continued, was mainly related to the equalization of diplomas and language differences. The introductory language in most Taiwanese medical programs is Mandarin, so students must master medical terminology in the language.
"The accreditation process is quite strict, especially the difference in terms of anatomy and medical can affect adjustments," he added.
Even so, graduates of medicine and nursing from Taiwan have wide career opportunities, both domestically and internationally. The demand for medical personnel, especially nurses, in Taiwan is very large and the salary is relatively high.
"In addition to promising salaries, work experience in Taiwan is recognized by many countries, thus opening up opportunities for careers abroad," said Simon.
In addition to academic abilities, graduates who master Mandarin have their own advantages in the labor market, including in Indonesia who are now working with many Taiwanese companies. The combination of medical skills and language skills makes Taiwanese university alumni more competitive.
"Studies in Taiwan are pocket-friendly living expenses, high-tech educational facilities, and wide-open international career opportunities, medical college in Taiwan is an option that Indonesian students can consider," concluded Simon.
