President Trump Pangkas Deadline For Russia, President Zelensky: On Time
JAKARTA - President Volodymyr Zelensky praised the move by United States President Donald Trump to cut deadlines for Russia ending its war in Ukraine.
In a post on President Zelensky's social media, President Zelensky praised the US President for his "firm technique" in calling for a shortened deadline to achieve progress to end Russia's war with Ukraine.
"The firm stance and firm determination of @POTUS on time, when things can change through power for true peace," President Zelensky wrote on X.
"I thank President Trump for his focus on saving lives and stopping this terrible war," he continued.
Earlier, President Trump said Monday he was disappointed by Russian President Vladimir Putin's failure to end the war in Ukraine, quoted from TASS.
He followed this disappointment by reducing the deadline he gave Russia to finalize a peace agreement to end the war with Ukraine, from 50 days to 10 to 12 days.
President Trump announced a deadline of 50 days earlier on July 14, saying if that is not achieved, the US will charge Russia 100 percent.
In his evening video address, President Zelensky again praised President Trump's "very important" statement given Russia's "continuous efforts to cause suffering in Ukraine" through airstrikes in its cities.
Ukraine, he said, views the application of harsh sanctions against Russia as a "key element" in ending the war.
"Russia pays attention to sanctions, pays attention to the loss," he said.

"Ukraine is ready to work productively with the United States, to work closely with President Trump to end this war with dignity and safe and lasting peace," he said.
Responding to President Trump's latest announcement, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stressed that President Donald Trump was playing an "omalous game" with Russia, warning such an approach could trigger a war involving the United States.
"Every new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with its own country (Trump)," he wrote on social media.
