AGO And Operator Sign MoU On Wiretapping, Speaker Of The House Of Representatives: Pay Attention To Personal Data Protection Rights
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, responded to the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the AGO and four national telecommunications operators that opened up the possibility of integrating communication data to support law enforcement, including the matter of wiretapping.
Puan reminded the importance of maintaining boundaries between the need for law enforcement and the protection of citizens' constitutional rights.
"Law enforcement is very important, but the Prosecutor's Office must pay attention to the right to personal data protection because private rights are constitutional rights," said Puan in a statement received by reporters, Friday, June 27.
Puan also emphasized the importance of growing public trust in legal institutions and the state must be maintained in a democratic realm. According to her, public trust can grow if the public believes that the state is acting in the corridor of law.
"Strong law enforcement must grow side by side with respect for the rights of citizens," said Puan.
