IWIP Strengthens MSMEs In North Maluku, Encourages Sustainable Economy
JAKARTA - PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) is taking strategic steps to encourage inclusive and sustainable economic growth by empowering Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), in North Maluku. Through this step, IWIP seeks to increase the independence of local business actors, create new economic opportunities, and encourage equitable welfare in society.
Since 2021, IWIP has entered into partnerships with various MSMEs in a number of sectors, including the procurement of foodstuffs, workwear and work equipment, fuel oil (BBM), industrial gas, maintenance and repair services, wood processing, transportation and accommodation services, as well as distribution of medicines.
Until early 2025, the total value of this cooperation has reached IDR 3.5 trillion. This step is in line with the Regulation of the Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Number 1 of 2022 concerning Procedures for Implementing Partnerships in the Investment Sector Between Large Enterprises and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Regions.
General Manager of External Relations IWIP, Yudhi Santoso, said that the involvement of MSMEs in the supply chain provides a multiplier effect for the community, especially in terms of job creation, increasing income, and strengthening local economic independence.
"MSMEs are boosting the economy. Therefore, IWIP is present and actively supports the growth of MSMEs, both in Weda Bay Industrial Estate to North Maluku. We also optimize the role of MSMEs through the provision of special areas, opening up wider trade opportunities," he said, in a written statement, Friday, June 20.
IWIP also formed partnerships in the environmental and cultural sectors by collaborating with the Mangrove Lestari community group in Kobe Village, Weda Tengah District. The partnership in the form of a mangrove ecosystem rehabilitation program aims not only to preserve coastal environments, but also to create new economic opportunities through processing mangrove products, developing educational tourism, and community-based ecotourism.
One of the tenants at IWIP, Weda Bay Nickel (WBN) also provides support for cultural conservation through collaboration with cultural studio Faisa for the preservation of traditional Bambu Tada musical instruments. This initiative opens space for art and cultural MSMEs to develop through local heritage-based creative activities.
