198 Porters In Surabaya Operation Area Receive Prizes From KAI

SURABAYA - As many as 198 porters in three stations in the Operation Area 8 Surabaya received compensation. This prize was given in connection with the Social and Environmental Responsibility Program (TJSL) of Free Food and Beverages for Ramadan in 2021 from PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).

"A total of 198 station porters who received assistance. This assistance is a form of our attention to station porters who have been helping service KAI customers at the station," said Heri Siswanto, Executive Vice President of PT KAI Operation Area 8 Surabaya.

He mentioned that the beneficiaries were 55 porters at Surabaya Gubeng Station, 128 porters at Surabaya Pasarturi Station, and 15 porters at Malang Station.

Heri admitted, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was also felt by porters at stations who had been depending on customers using their services, so that with this assistance it was hoped that it could ease the burden on every porter.

"Porters at the station are KAI partners who are tasked with helping to lift customers' luggage at the time of train departure or arrival. It is not uncommon for porters to also help KAI customers regarding travel information and facilities in the station area," said Heri.

Meanwhile, nationally PT KAI has provided total compensation of Rp328 million to all station porters in various KAI work areas.

The details of the compensation are in the form of free food packages worth Rp250,000 per package for 1,313 porters at various train stations. Each package consists of rice, sugar, cooking oil, instant noodles, sardines, and syrup

The distribution of food packages was carried out simultaneously in 12 KAI work areas, namely Operation Area 1 Jakarta, Operation Area 2 Bandung, Operation Area 3 Cirebon, Operation Area 4 Semarang, Operation Area 5 Purwokerto, Operation Area 6 Yogyakarta, Operation Area 7 Madiun, Operation Area 8 Surabaya, Operation Area 9 Jember, Regional Division I North Sumatra, Divre III Palembang, and Divre IV Tanjung Karang.

"Hopefully, the assistance we provide can be useful and help meet the basic needs of porters in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic situation," said Heri.
