Azis Syamsuddin Is Asked To Resign From The Leadership Of The House Of Representatives
JAKARTA - Researcher for the Community Concerned Parliamentary Forum (Formappi) Lucius Karus asked Azis Syamsuddin to resign from his position as chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR) after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) searched the office and private residence of Azis regarding the involvement of the Deputy Speaker of the DPR in the bribery case of investigator Stepanus Robin. Pattuju City Mayor Tanjungbalai M. Syahrial.
"Ideally, with the description of involvement as presented by the KPK chairman, I think Azis should resign from his post as DPR leadership", said Lucius Karus, Friday, April 30.
He considered Azis had a big soul if he voluntarily resigned. "It will be gentler if this decision to step down comes from Azis' own awareness", he said.
"But it is very rare in Indonesia, officials are asked to resign if they are suspected of committing irregularities", he continued.
According to Lucius, the Golkar Party could ask Azis Syamsuddin to resign from his post of leadership in the DPR so that the party would not be affected by the case that brought down the former chairman of Commission III.
"If Golkar doesn't take the initiative, I think we really have to wait for the process at the Honorary Council of the Court (MKD). When Setya Novanto was chairman of the DPR, he was also forced to resign from his position based on the MKD decision", said Lucius.
In addition, Lucius has doubts about the performance of the Honorary Council (MKD) regarding the case faced by Azis Syamsuddin. Although one of the opportunities to dismiss Azis is in the ethical line of the council.

"But of course this MKD is vulnerable to playing games to defend fellow DPR members and especially leaders of the DPR. The fact that MKD members consist of representatives from the factions can easily make the cases they handle as a tool for certain political transactions", said Lucius Karus.
