SCM: Steps By The Ministry Of Health To Rehabilitate Victims Of Online Gambling And Other Non-Zat Addictions

JAKARTA - President Director of the National Mental Health Center of Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital, Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) Nova Riyanti Yusuf, targets the Independent Creation Center (SCM) to become a center for psychosocial rehabilitation for the community.

"SCM can become a psychosocial rehabilitation center and encourage the public in maintaining people's mental and social health," Nova Riyanti said in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday.

He added that the existence of these SCMs can protect the public from the threat of non-strict addiction and can be developed in various regions in Indonesia for a wider group of mental disorders, not limited to online gambling addiction (judol).

"The replica will be successful with the support of regional heads who care and want to budget for this program through related agencies and move wider stakeholders," he said.

SCM is a program that focuses on social empowerment, community strengthening, and the development of local-based psychosocial services.

Through a participatory approach, he said, SCM seeks to build an inclusive, resilient, and awareness society for the importance of mental health.

As part of an early prevention effort against non-zero addiction in the community, Sukasari Village, Bogor City, was chosen as a pilot project as well as the launch location of the SCM Program. As many as 30 cadres from various RWs in Sukasari Village have attended intensive training.

In this training, cadres are equipped with an in-depth understanding of non-strict addiction, such as judol addiction, social media, and online games, as well as early detection methods and community-based interventions.

In addition, the results of research on gambling disorders are mental disorders. Gambling disorders are chronic mental health conditions that can affect many aspects of life.

"This is behavioral addiction that occurs when a person loses control of his gambling behavior. It is very important to talk to health care providers or mental health professionals as soon as someone realizes the problematic gambling behavior. This is the main and initial role of the establishment of SCM as a hub or liaison," said Nova Riyanti Yusuf.
