Al Schmitt, Famous Grammy Winning Sound Engineer Dies

JAKARTA - Al Schmitt, sound engineer for various hits, passed away at the age of 91 on Monday, April 26.

This sad news was shared by his wife, Lisa via Schmitt's Facebook page. Lisa said that Schmitt's last words were "to be kind to others".

"He was a man of love, and the friendship, love, and admiration he received enriched his life and meant to him".

Al Schmitt is the figure behind famous songs by George Benson, Toto, Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, Chick Corea, and Paul McCartney.

Even though it wasn't that much in the spotlight, Schmitt received a lot of appreciation for his hard work. He won Grammys for 10 of his works, one of which is Hatari! from Henry Mancini in 1962.

Al Schmitt started his career at the age of 19 where he worked at the Apex recording studio and moved to RCA until 2020. At his latest studio, he worked on a number of songs for Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, to Madonna.

He also worked with Capitol Records for several recording sessions and called Capitol his favorite place to work.

Schmitt was also awarded the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2015 for his work.
